SUNDRE – A film production crew is scheduled to be in Sundre later this month to shoot a portion of an award-winning series available on several streaming services.

The Mountain View Regional Film Office announced the project, which is scheduled for production in the Sundre area on May 19, in a press release issued Thursday.

“Season 3 of the award-winning series Abracadavers will be partially filmed in Sundre,” reads part of the statement, adding it represents the second production brought to town by Numera Films courtesy of the regional film office’s support.

Once again partnering up with the Canada Media Fund, Numera Films started principal photography on the third season of their flagship series back in mid-April.

The team plans to return to some of the province’s most picturesque locations, including John Scott’s Ranch in Longview, the Atlas Coal Mine in Drumheller, the Sundre and District Museum, the quarry at Sundre Contracting, as well as the old Greyhound Bus Station in Calgary.

The series’ first two seasons have reportedly already garnered more than 135 awards as well as nominations at 30-plus festivals worldwide. Among the notches on their proverbial belt are: Best Series wins at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival; the New Vision International Film Festival; the LA Web Fest; the DC Web Fest; the Los Angeles Film Awards; and Alberta’s own AMPIA Rosie Awards.

“It’s always a privilege to return to Abracadavers,” says Morgan Ermter, who is co-producing alongside Griffin Cork, who both look forward to resuming their professional relationship with Canadian Screen Award-Nominated Jesse Lipscombe, known for roles in titles including My Life with the Walter Boys and Black Summer.

“We’re striving to bring everything we’ve learned from past productions and past seasons,” Ermter was quoted as saying. “We always try to step up our game with every project we do, and this shoot is no different.”

The Canadian Media Fund has described the show as “a beautifully shot series that follows the lives of a quirky group of friends who have special powers.”

In the latest season’s storyline, the show’s main characters meet a rival camp; and with that introduction comes a foreboding message.

“Spaces are collapsing, people are in danger, and not everyone is as they seem,” reads the presser.

Cork and Lipscombe are to again be joined by: Reamonn Joshee, who’s played roles in Billy The Kid, Guilty Party, and Wynonna Earp; Jade Robinson, known for roles in Last Stop Video Rentals, This Too Shall Pass and The Rocket List; Enayat Ahmady, from Family Law; and Cassandra Naud, with appearances in Influencer, Loudermilk, and Snowpiercer, rounding out the cast this go-around.

Meanwhile, Ermter and Joshee are said to be back at the directing helm alongside Anna Cooley, who’s resume includes titles such as Faultline, Heartland and Hell on Wheels.

“Each new season is a new opportunity to reach a wider audience,” Cork was quoted as saying.

“And things are boding well so far. Since our previous partner – The Fantasy Network – went under, we’ve been chatting with an exciting collection of Canadian broadcasters and platforms in collaboration with our new distributor to find a new home for the series on our home turf.”

Abracadavers is currently streaming in the USA on Amazon Freevee, Apple TV, Roku, Tubi, and Cineverse, with physical Blu-ray copies of both seasons available for purchase.
